What is Integrative Oncology?
You might be wondering what integrative oncology is and whether it could benefit yourself or a loved one.
Integrative oncology aims to bring together complementary therapies and orthodox medicine to improve the lives of people affected by cancer, wherever they are in their journey. It’s where conventional cancer treatment meets complementary medicine to improve outcomes for cancer patients, including the prevention of recurrence.
Integrative oncology looks at the whole body, not simply the cancer, and works with cancer patients to educate and empower them to make healthy choices to support their health.
I hold a Fellowship in Integrative Oncology, gained from The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. While I don’t “treat” cancer, I will work with you to discover imbalances which may have contributed to your health issues. Integrative oncology acknowledges the importance of the body/mind connection in maintaining health.
Depending on your situation, appropriate therapies aim to improve your quality of life and treatment outcome and support you through your journey by managing side effects and supporting you emotionally and empowering you with education about your disease and positive changes you can make.
By discovering what nourishes and what depletes your personal body, I can work with you to provide your body with nourishing foods and recommend positive lifestyle behaviours with the aim of supporting you through your treatment and beyond.
Your protocol will be unique to you and will support you from wherever you start in your integrative oncology journey.
Integrative oncology starts with you, but it’s guided by evidence.
Only you can decide if I am the right person for you.
What some of Jo's Integrative Oncology Clients think
For over two years Jo has been helping my daughter to reclaim her health after thyroid cancer. Jo’s suggestions for tests, supplements, diet and lifestyle adjustments transformed my daughter’s health and quality of life. She is now bursting with energy and is enjoying really good health. We are so grateful to Jo for her help-we found It invaluable.
I was introduced to Jo through a friend shortly after being diagnosed with stage IV cancer, aggressive bowel cancer spread to the liver in the form of 7 tumours. My oncologist has put me on chemo but confirmed it was inoperable at that time. Jo, immediately give me confidence that diet could also fight the cancer along with boosting my immune system to deal with the harsh effects of chemotherapy. I followed Jo’s advice in detail and removed key things from my diet along with adding supplements and foods like turmeric. My CT scans showed dramatic reduction in tumour sizes and after 9 months the QE were able to operate on my liver. Jo Helped my body prepare for the operation and recover after 30 hours in intensive care. The result were amazing, I had had a very rare complete response to treatment, with no trace of cancer in my bowel or liver
Jo always makes me feel a renewed sense of confidence that I’m on the right track; I know she’s got my back throughout my journey with terminal illness, wherever it leads. She’s the brains behind my cancer protocol, so I can simply concentrate on being happy, staying calm and being as healthy as I can. It’s just such a huge help to have someone with her degree of knowledge do the research on my behalf, as it can become very, very complex living with cancer. We’ve been working together for over two years now, and I simply can’t imagine not having her to maximise my health potential. You’re a star!
If you need a functional practitioner to help look no further than embracing nutrition. Jo is so enthusiastic and really lifts your spirits. Certainly very knowledgeable and keen. When conventional medicine failed, Jo didn’t, she has supported me and completely changed my diet for the better. Takes the time to explain what she is doing and the reason why she thinks her recommendations will be good for me. Always there for support, she has an impressive range of knowledge about cancer and will always check interactions with conventional drugs.
I was referred to Jo after being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She has an impressive breadth of knowledge about cancer and nutrition, and she will research anything that she doesn’t know (for example, checking interactions with new drugs). Jo loves understanding the science of cancer and nutrition too – which is very reassuring. After every consultation, Jo sends me a detailed plan summarising what we have discussed with clear action points that I can follow up. I feel healthier now than I have done for years! Following Jo’s careful advice, I eat like a king and feel better than I have done for years! Jo is a goldmine of nutrition knowledge and suggestions. She loves knowing how the body works (and is excellent at explaining it in layman’s terms) and she keeps abreast of the academic work around nutrition – I feel confident that she is up to date with the very latest understanding.
Since starting my consultations with Jo and following her recommendations. I have felt so much better physically and mentally. I had a kidney removed due to cancer. Further scans showed I also had it in my lungs. However, with Jo’s help, the flecks on my lungs have been kept at bay and I am not on targeted treatment. I could not recommend Jo highly enough, she is knowledgeable, professional, and incredible intuitive along with being a lovely person too.
I am so impressed at the knowledge that jo has and confident that she is doing her very best to get my body in the best shape to fight my cancer and I am so grateful to have her in my support network
Jo, came into my life 11 years ago when my life was in total turmoil. My 16 month old son had been diagnosed with his second Cancer. I contacted Jo for nutritional advice and support for my son, this was the best thing I ever did! I sadly lost my son at age 2 and 3 months but Jo gave me the power to take back control of what was happening, being able to keep my son strong through chemotherapy losing very little appetite keeping him full of energy and he truly was able to live a life during this awful treatment. Although my son passed away he did so without pain he was even sitting up eating the day before he passed away in his sleep. My journey did not stop here, Jo continued to support me and my husband with the strain of grief she helped me detox from all the chemotherapy contamination I had been exposed to and supported my body from all the trauma I had gone through. I have since gone on to have two healthy boys. Jo has continued to supports us as a whole family for all our different needs I have learnt how to give me and my family an amazing healthier lifestyle with so many benefits I see everyday!
I have been a client of Jo’s for over 3 years now. Her knowledge and wisdom is invaluable. I have a terminal illness, but thanks to Jo’s advice and guidance, I’ve never felt healthier and am able to live a full active life. I love the way Jo works on every area of my life, not just my diet. People often ask me what my secret is and I simply direct them to Embracing Nutrition.
I have been consulting Jo for 5 years. I have a terminal illness which I have been dealing with for 8 years. Jo has helped me enormously throughout the five years. I credit her knowledge, advice and professionalism with keeping me as well as I possibly can be . Most people with my disease don't survive five years, yet here I am thriving. I also have conventional medicine and working with Jo allows me to take an integrated approach. Jo spends so much time researching appropriate measures to complement conventional medicine-there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that diet, supplements and lifestyle have a major impact on health. I would not hesitate for a moment in recommending Jo to others- indeed I do regularly
