The current medical model is no match for the challenges it faces today with longer term areas of health challenges and you may have landed with Functional medicine because the medical model is failing you or your child, or you feel something isn’t right, and you want some answers and at the same time reduce the challenges you are facing.
The medical model can play a part and medication can and does sometimes work help functioning processes, like sleep or attention, but it tends to be more of a bandage over the top of something going on underneath and then we wonder why, when you stop the medication, symptoms return. Using Functional medicine we get to the route cause of imbalance, in order to move forward with true balance and health, both physically and neurologically.
An Autistic person does not tend to be deficient in a pharmaceutical medication, they are more likely to be deficient in nutrients that drive important processes in the body, like cellular energy, cell clean-up processing, detoxification processes, neurotransmitter production, gut digestion, hormone production.
ASD is not a behavioural disorder! Research and the work we do here at Embracing Nutrition has shown there are neurobiological and chemical changes going on in the body and brain, and you as a parent or you as an autistic person, don’t always have to just live with the challenges of autism. These challenges can block your path or hinder you or your child from being able to achieve your very best life.
