Physiotherapist
We would like to introduce you to our resident physiotherapist on the team, meet Lottie.
Lottie’s passion has always been to make a difference in people’s wellness. Lottie trained as a physiotherapist graduating in 2007 where she worked across many areas of health, learning valuable skills she still uses in her current practice, creating the well-rounded knowledge she has about the body. Including musculoskeletal, orthopaedic, cardiovascular, and women’s health, focussing on post-birth recovery, prolapse, urinary and bowel incontinence and children’s physiotherapy.
Having worked in these areas as a hands-on physio, she realised the importance of combining health from the inside-out using nutrition and functional medicine as well as physiotherapy. Lottie went on to better her knowledge further in the nutrition field and has a Fellowship in ADHD.
This is where her nutrition knowledge and physiotherapy skills come together to form the perfect partnership for your / your child’s holistic care approach.
Every day at the Embracing Nutrition clinic physiotherapy skills is an integral part of the holistic approach we take to the management of clients’ care. Lottie supports the whole team in their own specialisms, if our clinicians feel their clients would benefit from some specific exercises, movement advice, or posture advice, then she is ready to support them.
Her long-standing passion for children’s health took her to become a highly specialised children’s physiotherapist, working with premature babies, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, learning and physical disabilities, ASD, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, as well as joint and muscular problems like Muscular dystrophy, hypermobility, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Juvenile arthritis and more. Over the last 5 years gaining an in-depth understanding of Gait patterns, orthotic needs, and movement therapy.
“You would be surprised how nutrition can affect a child’s development, for example torticollis (head turn preference in babies) has been linked to reflux as a child tries to turn away from the pain, which can be supported via nutrition, and physiotherapy to avoid it worsening and developing plagiocephaly (flat head). When I join physio positional advice together with nutritional knowledge, the results happen quicker and easier”
“Premature babies often have often had a number of antibiotics and medications at a very early age, which can have implications over their gut microbiome and therefore the function of the immune system, I often see allergies and eczema in these children at a later date. It is one of my big passions to try to encourage parents to see there is children as early as possible to avoid the impact the altered gut microbiome can have.”
“I often see adults who have joint issues, or arthritis, who may be on the waiting list for surgery or joint replacement and are trying to do everything they can for their joints. I am here to support in every way, positioning, strengthening exercises, stretches, gait and shoe advice, AND nutrition to support joint and cartilage health, reduce inflammation and you would be amazed the results! I have had clients come off the waiting list!”
